Kirsten Sage, D.C., L.Ac

Dr. Kirsten Sage is a native Californian and graduate of San Francisco State University, where she studied Kinesiology and went on to earn her doctorate of Chiropractic at Life West College. She graduated from Life West Magna Cum Laude in 2000. She followed her dream of practicing in a beach community and moved to Encinitas to open her first practice with her husband, scientist and surfer, Carleton Sage. Her chiropractic practice evolved and she co-founded a multidisciplinary clinic called Active Balance. Moving on from Active Balance in 2007, she founded Sage Health, a wellness center featuring chiropractic, acupuncture, and therapeutic massage. Her practice serves a variety of ages from infants to seniors. Her passion is the art of chiropractic and she is honored to be a part of improving her patient’s lives. Her goal as a chiropractor is simply to improve the function of the nervous system and her avenue into this delicate system is through the spinal vertebrae. There are twenty four movable bones in the spine called vertebrae and when those bones become misaligned (subluxated) our bodies are not able to function properly. She frees the body of subluxations and this helps to establish normal balance in the body thereby effectively reducing pain and optimizing health.

Dr. Sage’s repertoire of skills includes manual therapies such as Active Release, Graston, and ChiroSage (a unique blend of chiropractic and therapeutic soft tissue massage technique). These skills help to address tension in the muscular and fascia systems. It makes sense because the muscles are attached to bones and when the vertebrae misaligns, the muscles adapt to the stresses placed upon them. Dr. Sage not only adjusts the vertebrae, but releases the muscular stress and teaches her patients exercise techniques necessary to stabilize their bodies to protect them from further injury.

Dr. Sage provided Active Release therapy for triathletes in the Kona 2009 Hawaiian Ironman and through her volunteer work, became inspired to start training again for triathlon. May 2010 she accomplished her goal of finishing the Wildflower long course triathlon which included 70.3 miles of swim, bike, and run.

Dr. Sage is a licensed acupuncturist and her study of health includes the ancient art of acupuncture and herbology. When she’s not helping her patients she is enjoying her family and two daughters, Ginger and Kira.
