Symptomatic results experienced by millions are what has made chiropractic the largest drugless healing art in the world. Many have experienced, countless conditions resolved when, through chiropractic, the healing power of the body is unleashed. Chiropractic doctors practice natural, drugless, non-invasive health care and rely on the body’s ability to self-heal. When confronted with a physical problem your safest and most effective first choice for health care is chiropractic. Our belief is chiropractic first, drugs second, and surgery last.
The professional practice objective of the chiropractic method focuses on diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of mechanical disorders of the muscular system and their effects on the nervous system and general health, with special emphasis on the spine. Such mechanical disorders called vertebral subluxation dysfunction can interfere with the body’s function and its innate ability to heal itself because the spine houses and protects the spinal cord, which is the information highway of our being. The chiropractic adjustment optimizes health by normalizing the nervous system through specific and gentle adjustments to the spinal vertebrae. When the vertebrae are returned to their proper alignment the nerve supply is restored, healing is enhanced. Chiropractic treatment at Sage Health emphasizes manual therapy, spinal adjustments, and other joint and soft tissue manipulation, and includes exercises and health and lifestyle counseling.

KIRSTEN SAGE, D.C., L.Ac
Chiropractor and Founder of Sage Health
Dr. Kirsten Sage is a native Californian and graduate of San Francisco State University, where she studied Kinesiology and went on to earn her doctorate of Chiropractic at Life West College. She graduated from Life West Magna Cum Laude in 2000. She followed her dream of practicing in a beach community and moved to Encinitas to open her first practice with her husband, scientist and surfer, Carleton Sage. Her chiropractic practice evolved and she co-founded a multidisciplinary clinic called Active Balance. Moving on from Active Balance in 2007, she founded Sage Health, a wellness center featuring chiropractic, acupuncture, and therapeutic massage. Her practice serves a variety of ages from infants to seniors. Her passion is the art of chiropractic and she is honored to be a part of improving her patient’s lives. Her goal as a chiropractor is simply to improve the function of the nervous system and her avenue into this delicate system is through the spinal vertebrae. There are twenty four movable bones in the spine called vertebrae and when those bones become misaligned (subluxated) our bodies are not able to function properly. She frees the body of subluxations and this helps to establish normal balance in the body thereby effectively reducing pain and optimizing health.
Dr. Sage’s repertoire of skills includes manual therapies such as Active Release, Graston, and ChiroSage (a unique blend of chiropractic and therapeutic soft tissue massage technique). These skills help to address tension in the muscular and fascia systems. It makes sense because the muscles are attached to bones and when the vertebrae misaligns, the muscles adapt to the stresses placed upon them. Dr. Sage not only adjusts the vertebrae, but releases the muscular stress and teaches her patients exercise techniques necessary to stabilize their bodies to protect them from further injury.
Dr. Sage provided Active Release therapy for triathletes in the Kona 2009 Hawaiian Ironman and through her volunteer work, became inspired to start training again for triathlon. May 2010 she accomplished her goal of finishing the Wildflower long course triathlon which included 70.3 miles of swim, bike, and run.
Dr. Sage is a licensed acupuncturist and her study of health includes the ancient art of acupuncture and herbology. When she’s not helping her patients she is enjoying her family and two daughters, Ginger and Kira.
